The
Journey Begins
Welcome
Address:
It
is my pleasure and happiness to be part of this celebration (International
Stuttering Awareness Day, ISAD), the first
ever to be marked and celebrated in Nigeria with
my fellow stutterers, friends and families, speech therapists and
educators.
I appreciate
every effort individual has made to be present today. The Nigerian
Stuttering Association (NSA), the today’s celebrant, has summoned
up my courage and self-ego to deliver this message with my stuttering
voice and to narrate our concerns and seek useful advice.
Dear
noble guests, you are a living witness of today’s event. The
event is intended not only to communicate
our vision, mission and objective, but also to create massive awareness,
enlighten and inform the general public about the nature of stuttering
and the need for early intervention and prevention.
The
Nigerian Stuttering Association is established to bridge the gap
between stammerers and the general public and to improve the quality
of lives of people who stutter (PWS). So, our challenge therefore
is to produce a high quality information and resource- packages
and make it available to you ( stutterers, parents, teachers, professionals,
etc) whoever you are, wherever you live in Nigeria.
What
we have done today with this first celebration of ISAD in Nigeria
is to light the Candle.
In subsequent events, we shall be
feeding the flame.
We
want you to be our pillar and beam.
We expect your financial support,
moral and material assistance as well as your goodwill to take us
to a greater height. Indeed, NSA is a charitable
organization and will provide her services
free of charge to all Nigerians.
Note
that Stuttering is not a DISEASE,
nor is it a CRIME!
It
is just a communication disorder.
The
journey has just begun. Please come along with us.
Enjoy the event. Thank You
